Description
The City of Norfolk's Department of Libraries is currently seeking a part-time Library Floater. This position is a support position at Library Administrative Offices & Service Center. This individual will assist in the delivery of programs, customer service and special library projects.

Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $19.95 Hourly
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
One year of experience in library or related services.
Additional Preferred Experience:
Excellent English language, writing and copyediting skills.
Experience working with diverse groups of individuals of various ages, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to provide excellent customer service at a variety of programs and special event settings.
Ability to develop excellent print and digital marketing materials, especially through the medium of Microsoft Office, Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro).
Additional Information & Requirements
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Assists the Library Administrative Offices with the coordination, implementation and support of special events and programs for the NPL system.
- Assists the Programs Department with coverage of Early Literacy programs, creation of educational materials, graphic design tasks, adult programs, community engagement opportunities and systemwide events.
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written English language skills.
- Ability to coordinate storytime kits for a multi-branch system; inventory & update a variety of educational kits -- Storytime kits, KinderSTEM kits, YOUmedia rigs.
- Attends outreach events, representing NPL to the community & schools to promote all library programs, services, resources and locations to diverse communities throughout Norfolk.
- Assists the Library Branch Services Department with project management, scheduling and coordinating vendor/partner meetings, research project implementation and developing project timelines.
- Order and inventory special project materials i.e. equipment, supplies.
- Develop special projects presentations, correspondences, and trainings and training materials.
- Produces high quality marketing material such as social media and eNewsletter advertisements, flyers, brochures, pamphlets, booklets and handouts for promotion of library events.
- Demonstrates excellent organization and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and assignments.
- Exhibits proficient knowledge of computer software and databases, particularly Microsoft Office, WorkFlows, Canva and Adobe Creative Suites.
- Creates PowerPoints presentations.
- Research topics for reports and other projects.
- Performs administrative duties by preparing and analyzing statistical reports.
- Types reports, charts, graphs and other documents.
- Knowledgeable of office machine equipment, including copiers, scanners and printers.
- Promotes American Library Association, Family Place and YOUmedia philosophies.
- Other duties as assigned.
