Description:
Reporting to the Head of Reference and Instructional Services, the Instruction and Online Learning Librarian leads in the development and promotion of a dynamic campus-wide information literacy program for undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities include developing and teaching information literacy classes, developing online instructional resources, coordinating and evaluating all instructional products and activities, providing extensive outreach to faculty, leading librarians in their instructional responsibilities, and providing research services as part of the Reference and Instruction team. The Instruction and Online Learning Librarian will cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff to support teaching, learning, and research.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage course-related and course-integrated instruction for first-year students as well as for higher-level students in the majors and in graduate programs.
- Incorporate current and emerging practices, methodologies, and technologies into in-person and online information literacy instruction.
- Identify student and faculty research needs and develop relevant instructional components.
- Collaborate with faculty to support learning outcomes and to align information literacy instruction with course and program learning outcomes.
- Seek opportunities to discuss with faculty the ACRL Information Literacy Framework and how it relates to information literacy needs and learning outcomes.
- Develop and conduct information literacy instruction and develop online learning objects for Columbia faculty, staff, and students.
- Promote and support the integration of library resources and information literacy instruction into teaching and course content, both in the classroom and on Canvas.
- Consult with faculty and students to understand their research and information needs.
- Coordinate the creation and use of instructional guides, tutorials, videos, and other learning components for specific programs, topics, and populations (e.g., international students).
- Assess and improve instructional services, including in-person and online instruction and the information literacy program overall.
- Coordinate, coach, and provide leadership for other librarians in support of their teaching and collaborations with faculty.
- Provide training for and coordinate peer training by librarians in the Reference and Instruction Department including training on instruction-related technologies.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent degree.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in academic library instruction, including teaching and/or training in group, class, or one-on-one settings.
- Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of user-centered information literacy instruction.
- Experience developing tutorials, webinars, and research guides and using LibGuides, Canvas, and/or similar platforms.
- Experience with, knowledge of, or training in user experience principles and research, emerging technologies, and social media.
- Experience with faculty relationship-building.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills exhibiting a high degree of flexibility and ability to work in a team environment.
- Enthusiastic public service orientation and commitment to providing excellent, innovative, user-centered services.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
- Advanced working knowledge of and experience using discovery systems, databases and other electronic resources, web-based resources, library catalogs, reference tools, and social media.
- Working knowledge of copyright, fair use, open access, and open educational resources (OER).
- Ability to learn new software applications, programs, and tools and to assist users with a wide array of applications and technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and technology-supported communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience with outcomes-based assessment a plus.
- Experience with instructional design and technologies a plus.
