Spectrum Creative Arts is a community arts organization with a mission to provide the highest quality arts programming to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities in the Greater Rochester, New York area. Founded in 2013 by three music therapists, Spectrum employs a diverse team of dynamic arts and administrative professionals, and is committed to being a workplace that fosters creativity and passion.

Our schools division is in an exciting period of growth, serving over 10 school districts in the surrounding towns and counties. Operated and managed by a practicing school-based music therapist, we are looking for a full-time K-12 school-based music therapist for a January 2025 start to work exclusively on our school-based music therapy team of 5! Ideal candidates have obtained their MT-BC credential by the time of hire.

Position Description
The K-12 Full-Time School-Based Music Therapist will provide IEP (individual, small group, and consultation) and curriculum group services to students in kindergarten through grade 12 special education programs in contracted local public school districts throughout the Greater Rochester area. School-based services are scheduled Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM. This position requires travel to-and-from various school buildings. This is a salaried, year-round (12-month) position, with co-led session opportunities during the Summer term.

Compensation: $45,000 – $53,000 base salary. Previous experience, level of education, and additional certifications that relate to the position description are considered when determining salary. Pay is evaluated bi-annually.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Providing IEP (individual, group, consultation) and embedded curriculum-based services in schools
  2. Identifying, creating, and monitoring relevant IEP goals and objectives
  3. Collaborating with interdisciplinary team to address IEP goals and attending district team/caregiver meetings
  4. Completing weekly documentation, quarterly progress notes, annual review reports, and re-evaluation reports
  5. Scheduling and conducting intake evaluations for students referred for music therapy
  6. Collaboration with school team colleagues to support personal and team growth and learning
  7. Creating engaging clinical and/or learning content for sessions
  8. Utilizing clinical approaches that appropriately and effectively meet each student’s needs
  9. Exercising therapeutically effective and supportive individual and group session facilitation strategies
  10. Documenting and submitting weekly attendance and driving time
  11. Assisting with familiarizing community establishments with Spectrum
  12. Attending weekly team meetings and 1:1 supervision with team mentor

Required Qualifications:

  1. Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC)
  2. Graduate of an accredited U.S. Music Therapy (Bachelor’s or Master’s) program
  3. Previous experience working in school settings is highly preferred
  4. Creativity and experience with songwriting and original intervention development
  5. Valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle
  6. Compassionate, flexible, friendly, and team-oriented outlook when working with students and colleagues
  7. Flexibility with using shared spaces in school buildings, and with traveling to-and-from school buildings daily and weekly
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  9. Interest in engaging in professional growth opportunities as an individual and a teammate
  10. Excellent musical skills in: voice, guitar, percussion, and songwriting
  11. Experience working with school-aged children and young adults with a variety of neurodiverse diagnoses (developmental disabilities, ASD, ADHD, communication disorders, and more)
  12. Effective time management skills and ability to independently manage multiple deadlines
  13. Ability to work autonomously within a supportive environment
