KCAL News has immediate openings for a full-time Associate News Producer at the Los Angeles Duopoly. You will be a key member of the news team that is essential to the overall image and growth of the station.

We are seeking a dedicated, efficient, accurate and creative writer for this position. You’ll write scripts, edit video, build graphics, and assist in the overall production of newscasts. You'll also assist in news cut-in production when necessary.

This is a Writers Guild of America position and membership in WGA is required.

Job Function:

  • Assist Producer and fill-in, when needed, on Newscasts & Cut-Ins.
  • Must be an excellent storyteller and have the ability to craft a news story using words, pictures, sound, and graphics.
  • Excellent writing skills and copy-editing ability needed.
  • Must have proven control room experience and be able to smoothly handle live breaking news.
  • Build a compelling newscast with high production value in a competitive environment.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Newswriting, line producing, editing
  • Collaborate effectively with a wide range of personnel to create compelling content.
  • Maintain a steadfast commitment to accuracy and fairness
  • Strong Tease/Promo writing
  • Generate story ideas and participate in editorial meetings
  • Understand & use digital tools such as social media & our OTT platforms to reach viewers and deliver news.
  • At least five years’ experience, preferably in a top 20 market
  • Strong people skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Experience with Avid iNEWS, and Grass Valley Edius System a plus.

Hiring Salary Range: $70,772.00 - 99,788.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
