Al Jazeera Media Network is hiring: Sr. Producer - News-Gathering in Washington

You are responsible for producing high-quality, character-driven short documentary content on a monthly basis. A successful candidate should be comfortable leading teams in the field including a shooter/editor and a producer/AP, as well as working in smaller teams or even solo depending on the nature of the story.

Role Responsibilities:

1. Pitch compelling stories in keeping with the AJ+ core agenda and of interest to a digital audience.
2. Lead pre-production of assigned deployments.
3. Setup and access interviews, coordinate logistics, conduct research on stories, and work with shooter/editor on visual expectations.
4. Lead teams in the field in the U.S. and occasionally internationally - communicating all updates on projects to the Executive Producer.
5. Work across teams to ensure that Planning, Engagement, and Audience Development departments are constantly up to speed on the production schedule.
6. Take ownership of the structure of stories and write factually accurate and compelling scripts.
7. Provide social media copy to be used across various social networks for the assigned stories.
8. Screen internal and external pitches and commission story ideas to be shot by freelance video journalists or staff for content that can be used to engage with digital audiences across our platforms.
9. Assign stories as directed by an Executive Producer.
10. Fact-check scripts.
11. Champion field safety and ethical reporting practices.
12. Coordinate field team travel logistics.
13. Engage with the audience on social media in a professional manner while following network guidelines.
14. Contribute editorially strong and creative ideas in meetings and discussions.
15. Assess new information and react quickly to editorial developments.
16. Show leadership in the development of AJ+ field processes and mentor more junior staff members.
17. Carry out duties in line with Al Jazeera editorial guidelines and ethics.
