Job Duties

Operating, maintaining, and safeguarding the technical assets of the theater:
  • All equipment, including lighting, electrical, audio, communications, scenery/props, and assist with concert grand pianos.
  • Theater infrastructure, including stage drapes, theatrical rigging, wheelchair lifts, and patron accessibility accommodations.
  • Inventory records, perform preventative maintenance, and arrange for repair and replacement of theatrical equipment within budgetary constraints.
  • Auxiliary stage facilities, such as the backstage areas, scene shop, costume/prop storage, light booth, dressing rooms, fly loft, and electrical grid, ensuring all areas are kept clean and organized.

Supervising each event held in the Danos Theater:
  • Ensure the smooth operation of all events in the space.
  • Supervise the construction, installation, operation, striking, and load-in/load-out of each event.
  • Attend technical rehearsals as needed.
  • Provide specialized technical training and assign duties to a paid staff, student workers, and/or volunteer crews for all productions.
  • Communicate with the contact person for each event at least a week in advance.

Ensuring safety for each production performed in the space:
  • In advance of production dates, determine the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, recording, streaming, staging, and special needs for events and performances presented at the facility.
  • Ensure that resident departments and guest artists understand and follow theater and scene shop safety protocols. This includes paid staff, student workers, and/or volunteer crews.
  • Ensure the safety of the theater patrons and that the accessibility accommodations of theater patrons are met.
  • Complete all safety training as mandated by The Nicholls Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Accountable for ensuring that affirmative action, equal opportunity, and diversity are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Experience Required
3 years of experience managing the technical needs of a theatrical or musical venue.

Minimum Education Required
BA or BFA in Theatre Technology and Design or closely related degree (theater arts, cinema or television, fine arts, music or a related field which included coursework in technical theater, cinema or television production, or music technology).

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education
MFA in Theatre Technology

Preferred Experience
3 years of experience managing the technical needs of a theatrical or musical venue.

Other Preferred Requirements
  • Experience working in higher education, not-for-profit, or arts environment.
  • Production management experience.
  • Certified in CPR and 1st aid.
  • Experience working with music media.
