Job Summary

Bethune-Cookman University is seeking an accomplished and innovative Director of Marketing and Communications to lead the strategic direction of the university's brand and communications efforts. This pivotal role is instrumental in elevating the university's visibility, promoting its mission, and unifying its message across all platforms.

The ideal candidate will combine creative vision with strategic leadership to execute impactful campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences, including students, faculty, alumni, and the broader community. The Director will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to tell the story of Bethune-Cookman University and amplify its legacy, values, and academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy & Website Development:

  • Lead initiatives to enhance the university's website and digital presence and footprint.
Executive Communications:
  • Provide strategic and effective Marketing and Communication to the University President and Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer as needed.
Media Relations & Internal Communications:
  • Develop and oversee proactive media relations and internal communication strategies to ensure consistent messaging across targeted audiences.
  • Promote faculty, student, and alumni achievements through media outreach.
  • Respond to media inquiries in collaboration with legal counsel and media consultants.
  • Manage all crisis communications with professionalism and integrity to safeguard and enhance the reputation of Bethune-Cookman University.
Brand Strategy & Marketing Initiatives:
  • Craft and implement comprehensive marketing strategies aligned with institutional priorities and strategic goals.
  • Identify and communicate the core messages that emphasize B-CU's unique strengths and academic programs, differentiating the university from its peers.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management to develop branding efforts targeting prospective students.
Content Creation & Social Media Management:
  • Conceptualize and produce video content showcasing the B-CU brand.
  • Leverage popular social media platforms to engage prospective students and key stakeholders effectively.
Strategic Planning:
  • Develop a five-year marketing and communications plan to align with the university's strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure branding strategies reflect the legacy, pride, and values of Bethune-Cookman University.
  • Other Duties:
    Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the university's mission and goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Education & Experience:
    • Master's degree in a related field.
    • 7-10 years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably with a strong portfolio of video, print, and social media projects.
  • Core Skills:
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Proven success in developing creative marketing campaigns using analytics, technology, and media tools.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
    • Proficiency in video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
    • Experience with graphics and design tools
    • Familiarity with project management and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in marketing and communications within higher education.
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or similar software.
Environmental and Physical Conditions
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
  • Typical office environment with some walking, standing, or carrying light items.
  • Normal manual dexterity and visual/auditory acuity are essential.
