NATURE AND SCOPE: The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President, Communications to oversee internal and external communications and public relations efforts. This role, reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, is responsible for developing and implementing an integrated strategic communications plan to advance the organization's brand identity and ensure messaging is consistent, engaging, and effectively promotes the YMCA’s brand, programming, and services. The VP of Communications and her/his team will lead efforts to achieve the Y’s goal in becoming one of the most relevant community impact organizations in metro Atlanta. RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to): Set strategic direction on the development and implementation of an integrated strategic communications plan to advance the organization's brand identity. Strong collaboration with VP Marketing on Communications support as part of omni-channel strategy for revenue-generating campaigns and promotions. Internal communications: Develop, execute, and manage internal communications in a consistent voice. Strategic and functional oversight of Y intranet site, including staff and organizational recognition efforts, departmental and association updates, and Executive communications. Lead visual/video storytelling efforts to amplify the awareness of the impact of the Y CEO messages, YMCA events, community impact stories, donor events, and organizational achievements. Track and report on intranet analytics with key stakeholders monthly. External communications: Collaborate with PR firm to develop and execute a year-long public relations strategy based on the Association’s and departmental goals. Manage and share PR/communications calendar with key stakeholders monthly. Working with VP Marketing, leverage visual/video storytelling efforts for use in additional channels such as social media and broadcast campaigns. Manage communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organization's brand reputation, including response around incidents, crises, and issues. Lead communications support efforts for Praesidium Accreditation project, developing Early Learning communications strategies, and refreshing the Association’s crisis communications plans with key stakeholders. Develop and nurture relationships with media to pitch story opportunities. Partner with YMCA leaders to develop executive visibility tactics, including media interviews and panel discussions. Oversee development of press releases, arranging interviews, and developing talking points/briefing materials for Y staff. Create and distribute executive messages and internal memos. Work with PR firm on metrics-based monthly and quarterly reports for CEO and Senior Leadership Team. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field. 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic communications planning, public relations, media relations, executive support, and internal communications. 6+ years of direct people management experience with a history of increasing leadership responsibilities. Strong strategic mindset and experience. Expertise in crisis communications and issues management. Excellent writing, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to influence and communicate with all levels of management and employees. Strong collaboration skills with both internal and external stakeholders. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field. Non-profit experience.
