PHS implements innovative, cost-effective population-based health programs; conducts research providing insight on effective public health interventions; and provides services to government and other nonprofits to address public health issues.
Position Summary:
PHS is seeking an experienced Grant Writer to join our Development and Marketing team. The position is responsible for developing and writing grant proposals for private and corporate foundations to secure unrestricted operating revenue and restricted program support. The Grant Writer will direct prospect and grant research; develop and maintain a portfolio of private funders; build and execute strategies to solicit new private and corporate foundation funding; support PHS’ Programs and Research in government grant submissions, as needed; and manage all grant-related systems including Raiser’s Edge tracking, board reports and business development meetings.
Responsibilities:
- Create and direct a fundraising plan that sets annual revenue and relationship goals for funding from private and corporate foundations.
- Steward existing foundation supporters and develop relationships with new donors.
- Write and edit grant proposals, cover letters, correspondence and grant reporting.
- Supervise a Development Assistant in grant research to identify new foundation funding streams.
- Conduct background research about public health issues to support future programmatic and research work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 -5 years of relevant experience, including a proven track record of successful grant writing.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential.
- Existing relationships with foundations supporting health and poverty-related topics.
- Ability to work well under pressure and communicate succinctly for RFP applications.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products and online grant submissions systems.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants.
- Experience in fundraising for health and social services is preferred.
