Position Summary:
The Development Specialist - Grant Writer is responsible for grant research, identification, and writing, with the purpose of generating grant revenue to support the mission of Tommy Nobis Center. This role will identify, define, and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities. The role will coordinate the development, writing and submission of grant proposals to diverse sources of grant funding, including foundation, corporations, and government entities. The Development Specialist - Grant Writer is also responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the performance of program activities that are funded by third-party public and private sources.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Generates revenue for Tommy Nobis Center programs and services through timely submission of thoroughly researched, professionally written, and well-documented grant proposals.
- Works closely with the Director, Development to design and implement comprehensive grants budget in support of overall Development goals and metrics.
- Researches and identifies public and private grant opportunities including but not limited to government, corporate, foundations and private funding prospects.
- Assesses grant potential/viability and works with the Director, Development in prioritizing response efforts.
- Works closely with Programs staff to effectively communicate program budgets, metrics, and objectives to potential funders through comprehensive proposal submissions.
- Ensures proposals and grant applications are submitted in a thorough and timely manner including all required supporting documentation.
- Collaborates with Director, Accounting and other Grants staff to track grant expenses, manage change requests and conduct grant reimbursement and reporting activities.
- Updates donor/foundation information in the donor management system (Blackbaud).
- Ensures cultural compatibility/interest of the grantor and Tommy Nobis Center’s mission.
- Prepares, edits, and monitors all grant submissions, and manages the submission progress from initiation to completion, ensuring all critical timelines are met.
- Prepares prospect lists, work plans, and monthly achievement reports.
- Maintains and implements funding calendar activities, including cultivation and stewardship activities.
- Builds, maintains, and acts upon an annual grant calendar with key due dates, timelines, and deliverables.
- Cross-collaboration with organizational staff in the composition and writing of required reporting to government, corporate, foundation and other funders.
- Acts as a liaison between funders and program staff.
- Serves as a liaison for Tommy Nobis Center to all funding agencies or organizations.
- Engages with program officers at organizations to solicit invitations to submit proposals.
- Assists with specific projects as assigned.
