Other Conditions: Position is a temporary casual hire position and offers no benefits, hours not to exceed 19.75 hours per week. Continuous recruitment until programmatic needs are met.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Assistant Media Relations Director of assigned sport.
  • Public Address Announcer is responsible for game-day announcing for University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics sporting events.
  • Read pre-game announcements, introduction of the National Anthem and player introductions.
  • Read in-game announcements of game events, and scripted announcements during stoppages of play.
  • Read halftime announcements including game statistics and promotional events.
  • Read post-game announcements as directed.
  • As directed by the designated game manager, provides announcements to crowd during the game to ensure a healthy, competitive atmosphere exists for all home athletic contests.
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing game situations.
  • Ability to think and work under time-sensitive situations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of rules and statistics of designated assigned sport.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators, employees and coaches in the department and appropriate members of the media, donors and other individuals interested in the sports program.
  • Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.
  • Other duties as directed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Previous sports announcing experience preferred.
  • Strong and pleasant voice with attention to proper pronunciations.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Expressive, clear and controlled vocal skills.
  • Varied vocal delivery based on game situation.
  • Advanced knowledge of sports.
  • Knowledge and understanding of rules and statistics of designated sport.
  • Ability to think and work under time-sensitive situations.
  • Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays and nights when needed as many events are scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
