POSITION DESCRIPTION
Walker seeks an energetic and dedicated individual for a Middle School Visual Arts teaching position. This position will be the lead teacher for our Middle School Visual Arts program as well as have the opportunity to teach a section or two of Upper School visual art. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching across multiple media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and ceramics. The teaching load is five sections along with grade-level advising. Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to the full life of the school through sponsoring student organizations, coaching, and/or building relationships within the local art community.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Possesses strong knowledge of the visual art curriculum being taught and of those surrounding it.
- Uses best practices in teaching and learning, focused on differentiated instruction, to design and deliver instruction.
- Incorporates problem-based learning, design thinking, and authentic experiences to inspire student learning and creativity.
- Presents well-planned lessons with appropriate work within and outside of the classroom (with a focus on the integration of subject areas, problem-solving, and creativity).
- Maintains accurate and comprehensive records of each child’s performance and progress.
- Maintains and directs the appropriate behavior of students.
- Cares and nurtures the social and emotional needs of each child.
- Develops strong student relations and nurtures the whole child by effectively communicating through active listening and appropriate responses.
- Demonstrates effective and timely verbal and written communication with parents pertaining to a child’s progress and needs, as well as general information.
- Maintains an organized, pleasant, and inviting environment that supports active learning and creativity.
- Collaborates with colleagues in lesson planning as well as grade-level and school-wide goals.
- Participates actively in professional learning opportunities and demonstrates a growth mindset toward learning.
- Coordinates the display of artwork on a rotating basis so that all student work is represented.
- Maintains visual resources and inventory of art tools, materials, and equipment, including maintaining the kiln.
- Participates on required school committees working toward school-wide goals.
- Coordinates classroom-related activities and events (including field experiences) that support subject-specific curriculum.
- Additional responsibilities, as assigned.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master’s degree with advanced coursework and teaching experience is preferred.
