We are developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough Smartglasses, AR glasses and VR headsets, including optics and displays, computer vision, audio, graphics, brain-computer interfaces, haptic interaction, eye/hand/face/body tracking, perception science, and true telepresence. The Audio team at Meta Reality Labs is looking for a Research Engineer to support large-scale data collection, processing and management to enable research & development of audio AR & VR technologies. You will be supporting on-site data collection activities and building tooling for data processing and management as needed.

Research Engineer: Audio Responsibilities

  1. Work with researchers to understand data needs and propose solutions to these needs.
  2. Work with data collection project and program managers to prioritize work.
  3. Take ownership and leadership on design, setup, and maintenance of data collection systems comprising software and hardware that handles many streams of multi-modal data.
  4. Design and implement tooling for data processing, visualization, and management.
  5. Data analysis with great attention to detail to identify future data quality improvements.
  6. Communication of progress including via posts, presentations, and meetings.
  7. Creation of documentation that enables more efficient use of data.
  8. Constant learning, diving into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embracing the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
  2. 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  3. 3+ years experience with Python.
  4. 3+ years experience working with large data collection systems and datasets for machine learning, including capturing, processing, annotating and storage.
  5. Experience working with audio including audio processing and acoustic datasets.
  6. Experience in communicating effectively with a broad range of stakeholders and collaborators, at different levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. MS in a relevant field such as Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Computer Science, Statistics or equivalent work experience.
  2. Experience with audio signal processing and audio-visual machine learning.
  3. Experience with networking and shell scripting.
  4. Understanding of visual and other sensors (e.g. motion capture and IMU), with experience in sensor and camera calibration.
  5. Understanding of 3D mathematics, applied linear algebra and applied statistics.
  6. Experience with building models on speech or acoustic datasets, ideally with Pytorch.

$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
