Job Summary

Attend a mandatory workshop and orientation one week prior to the beginning of classes each semester. Enroll in a minimum of nine hours and maintain a 3.0 graduate-level GPA. Assist in teaching courses in the School, including but not limited to:

  • COMM 1000: Public Speaking
  • COMM 3500: Foundations of Human Communication
  • COMM 3600: Foundations of Rhetoric and Social Influence
  • CMJN 2100: Concepts in Communication and Journalism
  • JRNL 1100: Newspaper Fundamentals

At the conclusion of each semester, all GTAs are evaluated according to their quality of course work, teaching, and service. Students who do not fulfill departmental expectations will not have their assistantships renewed.

Essential Functions

Primarily to assist in the teaching of classes in the School of Communication & Journalism. Responsibilities may also include advising or mentoring of students; proctoring exams; grading papers, homework, and/or projects; preparing instructional materials; or providing other general assistance in the instructional process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Acceptance into the Auburn University School of Communication & Journalism Graduate Program.
  • Is an enrolled graduate student at Auburn University or will be at the time appointment begins.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in leadership positions as well as an understanding of common communication principles related to public speaking, interpersonal communication, and nonverbal communication.
