Responsibilities

Palo Verde Behavioral Health Hospital provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PVBH is an 84 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. PVBH has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. Situated in Tucson, AZ, at the base of the Catalina Foothills, PVBH is minutes to Saguaro National Park and the University of Arizona.

Creative Arts/Recreational Therapist provides group therapy for patients and documents the process in the patient record in accordance with facility procedures. A creative arts or expressive arts intervention or background would be preferred for patient knowledge and growth within their healing process.

This position will focus on coordinating therapeutic activity programs to effect improvement in the physical, mental, and social well-being of patients. Prepares reports on patient progress, and with the consensus of the treatment team, modifies programs in accordance with the patient’s needs and capacities.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy or a closely related therapy field. Preferred Master’s Degree in Recreational Therapy.

Experience: One (1) year of experience as a Recreational Therapist strongly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, time management, Handle with Care, and group and individual psychotherapy required.

Licensure/Certification (Preferred): Keep current with continuing education requirements for State licensure. Maintain current professional license Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist/Expressive Arts Therapist/Yoga Therapy, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Handle with Care (HWC) required and a Valid fingerprint clearance card.
