This Airside Design Manager is part of a global design organization and will be responsible for leading a team of designers specializing in NPD Design Product Development, Productivity and Product Improvement Projects. In addition, this position will support the enhancement of strategic global processes for CAD Modeling Techniques, Design, Procedures, Product Design Processes, Design Methods and Design/Drafting Standards.

Where is the work:

This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule, with work performed onsite 3 days each week.

What you will do:

  • Leadership, development planning, performance goals, employee engagement and salary planning responsibilities for the Light Commercial HVAC Design Team. Product line is primarily 6.5-ton to 25-ton rooftop units.
  • Lead Light Commercial HVAC Design team by exercising extensive judgment, inventiveness, and conceptual approaches to designing electrical and electro/mechanical aspects of complex HVAC equipment, machines and assemblies.
  • Responsible for creation or review of New Product Development (NPD), Productivity or Lifecycle design project plans, completion of tasks, maintain progress and recommend action should schedules or tasks be in jeopardy of estimated completion.
  • Work with the change boards and the Engineering Product Owner(s) to document and maintain a prioritized product project list.
  • Support OPEX transformation, including leading continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist team in defining, developing and implementing Advanced and Standard Work CAD modeling techniques, CAD design procedures, CAD productivity improvements and CAD verification processes.
  • Complete understanding and familiarity of all drafting practices, methods and processes, including GD&T, welding, sheet metal, castings, machining and dimension and tolerance analysis.
  • Maintains competency level and improve abilities of computer aided graphic system and other applications.
  • Consistently demonstrated responsiveness to the customer (internal and external) and be quality minded in performance of all duties.
  • Exercises exceptional communication skills.
  • Occasionally perform audits on engineering documentation from models, drawings, method sheets, BOM and configuration rules to validate design and design intent.
  • This position will directly report to the Unitary Design & Data Systems Engineering Manager.
  • Ability to travel bi-annually to Lynn Haven, FL to support NPD projects.
  • Adheres to all company safety and security policies and procedures.

What you will bring:

  • Associate degree in mechanical or electrical design (or equivalent technical degree) and at least 7 years of relevant work experience in a product design environment - including a minimum of 2 years managing a team of direct reports.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology (or equivalent technical degree) and at least 5 years of relevant work experience in a product design environment - including a minimum of 2 years managing a team of direct reports.
  • Must be an effective team servant leader with a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Intimate knowledge of change control processes and procedures fundamentals required.
  • Knowledge of PTC products preferred (Creo, PLM-Wind-chill, Piping, Sheet Metal).
  • Strong project management competency, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Light Commercial HVAC Product and Manufacturing Processes knowledge are preferred.
  • Able to function and take on a leadership role in a cross functional, global design engineering team environment.
  • Solid knowledge of CAD technology, techniques and processes required.
  • Experience in managing departments, supervising and developing people is required.
  • Possess highly developed technical skills, in-depth knowledge associated with design and drafting or proven project leadership.
  • Demonstrate consistently high leadership qualities, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Extensive Knowledge/use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Knowledge of MDP/DMC, CINCOM and other Trane systems is a plus.

Compensation:

Base Pay Range: $90,000-$120,000
