Title: Truss Designer

Department: Engineering Division: Roof/Floor Trusses & Wall Panels

Status: Full Time Compensation: Non-Exempt

Job Summary

The Truss Designer is responsible for producing truss designs for residential and commercial facilities based on customer demands and specifications. Ensures all designs meet relevant compliance codes and customer specifications. Other responsibilities include assisting manufacturing in resolving production issues and informing sales and customers of order status. Also responsible for some estimating functions of commercial and residential units. Completes assigned workloads to departmental standards.

Job Duties

  • Develop, draft, and prepare truss drawings using AutoCAD and various applications.
  • Provide support to customers and sales staff by evaluating customer design requirements, communicating and resolving issues and concerns.
  • Develop design solutions, create drawings, submit bills of materials, and source vendors for customer proposals. Ensure design compliance with all required standards.
  • Perform and analyze industrial engineering time and activity studies. Apply value-added techniques to material handling and manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate job status with internal staff, general contractors, and customers. Ensure the most current expectations are effectively communicated to all relevant individuals.
  • Facilitate customer requests for change orders and ensure the execution of approved changes through relevant processes.
  • Perform estimating functions related to the design and scope of assigned jobs.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • The Truss Designer reports to the Component Design Manager. The Truss Designer does not have any direct reports.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of construction framing background for residential homes or commercial buildings or related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent mathematics skills, specifically geometry and graphic skills.
  • Strong knowledge/understanding of AutoCAD software application.
  • Ability to communicate questions to staff and work with training leads to obtain necessary information to complete work tasks.
  • High school degree or equivalent. Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Outstanding organizational skills to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple projects.

Special Job Dimensions

  • Must have the ability to operate independently in a high-volume environment with minimal direction.
  • May be required to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally may conduct job responsibilities in non-administrative environments such as the storage yard, production facility, or customer sites.
