Description
The Senior Recipe Developer/Editor is responsible for researching, developing, writing and editing recipes in accordance with client expectations under the direction of the Test Kitchen Director and Project Executive Editor. Maintains accuracy and integrity of final recipes before going to print, digital or video.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
RECIPES:
Recipe Development & Oversight: Oversees recipe development, recipe writing and editing for print, digital, video and/or product extensions, as assigned.
- Research and pitch recipes and food stories
- Develop and test recipes according to established method
- Write recipes using correct style
- Verify facts, dates and statistics using approved reference sources
- Read copy and proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax
- Deliver recipes to Test Kitchen Director and Project Leads for review and approval
PHOTOGRAPHY:
Assists with photography as assigned. This may include planning, propping, managing the kitchen/food shoots, advising the proper way to photograph food, etc.
- Prepare for photography days and work with the Test Kitchen Director, Project Leads, and other staff in sharing responsibility for photo shoots
- In conjunction with other staff, maintain a clean and safe kitchen and studio work environment
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintain a positive can-do attitude
- Record and track your time within the Paylocity system for each project
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Food Sciences, Culinary Arts, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 3 years of editorial experience, consumer magazine experience a plus
- Experience developing, writing, and editing recipes for brands or publications
- Background in food editing
- Broad cooking experience helpful
- Understand how to use Adobe InDesign for entering text within layouts
- A solid understanding of grammar and the Chicago style manual
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail in recipe testing, reading, writing, and editing
- Highly motivated with ability to work in a collaborative manner to meet client deadlines
- Ability to maintain a positive can-do attitude
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to purchase and carry groceries
- Physical capability to meet the demands of the position such as being able to walk, stand for long periods, remove items from cupboards, carry groceries, clean kitchen, drive, etc.
