Job Description:
The interdisciplinary Minor in Film Studies, housed and directed in the Department of Art and Art History, offers a vibrant exploration of cinema as an art form alongside a rigorous overview of film history, theory, practice, and aesthetics in relation to the other disciplines and the arts. The Film Studies Minor draws from course offerings across multiple departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and can be combined with any major offered at the University.
The Department of Art and Art History at the University at Albany seeks part-time instructors to teach introductory courses in Film Studies on a range of topics. These include all of the courses listed under the 200-level rubric on our Web site (https://www.albany.edu/art/programs/film-studies-minor) and may include occasional 300-level courses:
- ARH 260 - Introduction to Film Studies
- ARH 261 - Independent and Art House Cinema
- ARH 263 - Film Genres
- ARH 264 - Radical Film Movements: 1960s and 1970s Cinema
- ARH 267 - International Film Movements
- ARH 269 - The Crime Film
- ARH 288, 289 - Film History I, II
- ARH 363 Early Film Technologies: From the Zoetrope to Film Sound
- ARH 369 / ART 382 Experimental Film and Video
Requirements:
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Candidates must have, at minimum, a Master's degree, preferably in Film, Cinema, Moving Image Arts, or Media Studies. The degree must come from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Applicants must address in their application their ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
- Teaching experience is desirable.
