REPORTS TO: MarCom Project Manager
TIME COMMITMENT: 4 months minimum
COMPENSATION: Unpaid
PROGRAM SUMMARY:
The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Marketing & Communications Department provides comprehensive and responsive marketing and communications support and counsel to all internal and external audiences and stakeholders to support the Center’s mission and ongoing work. Primary internal audiences include our programs, services, Development department, and Leadership team. Primary external audiences include clients, media, policymakers, and elected officials, other nonprofit organizations, and the local, national, and international LGBT community.
JOB SUMMARY:
We are looking for a creative and motivated Volunteer Graphic Designer to join our Marketing and Communications team. The volunteer will support the department by designing internal flyers and promotional materials for smaller community and program events using Canva templates. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build their portfolio, contribute to a meaningful cause, and gain experience in a nonprofit environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design flyers and marketing materials using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite for various community
and program events. - Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to understand design needs and brand guidelines
- Ensure all designs are consistent with the Center’s branding and communication strategies.
- Collaborate on creative ideas and suggest design enhancements as needed.
- Adapt existing Canva templates to suit the specific requirements of different campaigns and events.
- Manage multiple design projects concurrently, ensuring timely delivery.
- Maintain open communication with the team, providing updates on the status of design projects.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proficiency in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite tools.
- Basic understanding of graphic design principles and a strong visual sense.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to accept and apply constructive feedback.
- Passionate about supporting the LGBTQ+ community and aligned with the Center’s mission.
- Previous experience in graphic design (professional or personal projects) is a plus but not required.
