Monday to Friday work schedule.

Summary/Objective of Position:

The instructor of graphic design will be responsible for facilitating courses in visual communication concepts, design principles and design software. Graphic design courses offered at Dine College include: GD 110 Graphic Design I; GD 210 Graphic Design II; GD 211 Publication Design I; GD 212 Digital Media I; GD 213 Web Design I; GD 310 Graphic Design III; GD 311 Publication Design II; GD 312 Digital Media II; GD 313 Web Design II; GD 314 Typography I; GD 315 Typography II; GD 410 Graphic Design IV.


Description of Essential Functions of the Position:

Candidate must teach a total of 5 classes (15 credit hours) per semester, both in-person and online; contribute to the BFA program of the School of Arts and Humanities; participate in active research that is related to the field; advise and mentor students in the department; provide service to the School of Arts and Sciences and the College; maintain office hours to meet with students; achieve appropriate student-learning outcomes in all courses taught; provide support to students in need of academic improvement; maintain professionalism in the academic environment; possess technical knowledge that includes the operation of all studio equipment for the discipline, including expertise with App//PC computers, scanners, printers (including 3D scanners and printers), and other digital devices; perform other duties assigned by the Dean.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience


Minimum:

MFA in visual arts or related field.

Preferred:

The terminal degree of MFA in Graphic Design or an equivalent from an accredited institution; evidence of professional excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Knowledge:

Preferred practicing designer with a strong interest in the history of Native America and an appreciation for the unique place and identity of Dine College as the tribal college of the Navajo Nation.


Skills:

Ability to demonstrate techniques clearly and work closely with students to develop their skills as designers. A commitment to working closely with students in the context of a tribal college; the effective demonstration of tools for the creation of design and imagery and web design. The ability to define clear goals and assignments for students.

Abilities:

Competence in educational principles, instructional methods, evaluation techniques and technology used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations. Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.
