What You'll Be Doing
Are you a library professional looking for part-time hours and are passionate about serving the children in your community?
WCPL is hiring a part-time (20 hours per week) Youth Services Librarian for the Duraleigh Community Library to focus on the Young Child. You will work in the library with a team of Librarians and Library Assistants dedicated to offering quality service and dynamic programming to the community. Beyond developing and delivering storytimes, Librarians provide reference, readers' advisory and circulation assistance. Librarians are offered the opportunity to collaborate with managers and peers; and participate in system initiatives, though on a more limited basis due to the part-time schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, promote and present multiple weekly programs for children and families
- Work directly with the public on a service desk providing reference and readers' advisory
- Take a lead with Library Assistants assigned to assist in the delivery of programs

The weekly schedule for this position is:
Monday: OFF
Tuesday: 8-1
Wednesday: 8-1
Thursday: 4-9
Friday: 9-2
Librarians work every third Saturday and every 6th Sunday.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
- No specific experience required
- Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
- Coursework in youth services
- One year of professional public library experience working with children
- Spanish language skills
