The Opportunity
The University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries seeks a Digital Initiatives Librarian to join our team as a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty librarian at the Assistant Librarian rank. Reporting to the Head of Digital Scholarship in the Digital Strategies, Impact, & Visibility division, this position leads the management of UCF's institutional repository (STARS) and advances the visibility and accessibility of UCF's scholarship and unique collections. Scholarship, professional service, and participation on various committees related to digital collection and institutional repository management are expected.
The Digital Initiatives Librarian will collaborate with library and campus stakeholders to develop and sustain digital projects, with a particular focus on expanding STARS services. The ideal candidate will bring experience in digital preservation and digitization, along with knowledge of emerging trends and digital scholarship methodologies. This role oversees STARS-related services that support the research and publishing needs of the UCF community.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Manage daily operations and provide strategic leadership for digital initiatives by setting unit goals and objectives, creating policies, evaluating services, and supervising 2 full-time staff.
Institutional Repository: Facilitate the use, management, and growth of UCF’s institutional repository (STARS), supporting the dissemination of special collections, university archives, scholarly, research, and creative outputs.
Digital Accessibility: Research, recommend, and implement accessibility standards for digital collections and repository content by developing policies, advocating for accessible systems, and guiding content remediation and creation.
Digital Preservation: Spearhead digital preservation efforts by overseeing program development, implementation, and best practices to ensure long-term access to digital assets.
Digitization Efforts: Develop, cultivate, and manage digital initiatives through cross-departmental collaboration and stakeholder engagement, securing funding to support retrospective scanning, born-digital materials, and digital research projects and coordinating with vendors on outsourced digitization projects.
Open Access and Scholarly Publishing: Advise on open access, rights management, and data management while partnering with librarians to raise awareness of scholarly publishing issues and foster institutional change through education and advocacy.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an accredited institution; or doctorate combined with academic library experience.
Experience working with an institutional repository platform, such as Bepress’ Digital Commons.
Preferred Qualifications:
Supervisory experience or experience managing a team.
Experience with project management and/or leading digital projects.
Experience with developing and documenting digitization policies, digital preservation strategies, and scanning practices.
Experience consulting with teaching faculty, administrators, and/or students to recruit content for digital projects.
Familiarity with data management strategies and digital accessibility laws and standards.
Knowledge of digital scholarship methodologies, tools, and technologies, scholarly communication, and metadata principles and practices.
