Library Clerk, Spout Springs Library Branch

The Hall County Library System is seeking an 18-hours per week library clerk to work at the Spout Springs library branch. This position performs daily circulation services that require a high level of customer service. Reports to the Branch Manager or Circulation Services Manager.
Examples of work:
- Checking materials in and out, renewing items, registering new patrons, entering data into computer PINES database and orienting new patrons to library services.
- Collecting and recording fines and fees for lost or damaged items, or collection agency fees.
- Placing holds for patrons and processing them when they become available.
- Providing computer assistance for public access catalog, Internet, photocopiers and printers.
- Shelving materials and maintaining their correct order.
- Repairing lost or damaged items.
- Performing shelf checks and doing appropriate follow-up.
- Processing in-transit items that are shared within the system as well as with distant systems.
- Inspecting materials for damage.
- Other duties as assigned.
Works a minimum of one outreach event each year.
Work Schedule:
Subject to evening and weekend assignments.
Staff Development Requirements:
Completes 10 contact hours of continuing education per year.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to learn and operate an automated circulation system with a high degree of efficiency.
- Skills in using various computer software and hardware including word processing, Internet, search engines, e-mail, office equipment.
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patrons of all ages.
- Ability to make decisions within stated guidelines and to sometimes work independently.
- Detail oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Basic clerical skills including understanding of alphabetical and numerical order and an understanding of and ability to use the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
- Solid commitment to customer service, and the protection of intellectual freedom, and the privacy rights of library users.
- Ability to lift 10 pounds with occasional lifting of heavier items up to 25 pounds and push a cart with up to 100 pounds on it.
- Ability to bend knees, stretch and lift up to 3 pounds over your head.
- Ability to sit in an office chair for an extended period of time.
Required Education, Training, Experience:
Prior work experience in a position that would provide skills relevant in a library setting.
