We’re looking for a vibrant and motivated individual to join our team in an exciting, multifaceted role that combines customer engagement with operational excellence! In this position, you'll guide customers through circulation processes while delivering outstanding service that truly exceeds expectations. You'll play a vital role in streamlining operational and circulation workflows, ensuring smooth and efficient processes every step of the way—all while collaborating with a dynamic and enthusiastic team.

Responsibilities:

  • Checking in and checking out library materials
  • Registration of new library accounts and updating existing accounts
  • Assists customers with author, title, and subject searches
  • Pulls requested materials from shelves
  • Maintains the collection to include snags, replacing broken cases, light repair of items, changing item call numbers per Technical Services and cleaning discs
  • Directs customers to the online room reservation software and refers to appropriate staff for troubleshooting
  • Ensures that LCD units, microphones, PA systems, and other requested equipment are set up

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of public contact experience and familiarity with basic library procedures and a demonstrated knowledge of computers. Must be able to spell accurately and possess keyboarding skills.

Management Preference:

Public Library experience preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of library collections
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Knowledge of the purposes and uses of libraries, including the Dewey Decimal System
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and management
  • Ability to use computers, manipulate keyboards competently, and spell accurately

Conditions of Employment:

Successful candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment with Cumberland County must pass pre-employment screenings, including criminal history checks and drug screenings, as required by Cumberland County Policies and Procedures, prior to beginning work or receiving a final offer of employment. Refusal to submit to testing or testing positive for prohibited substances will result in the withdrawal of the conditional employment offer.
