Engage creatively and critically with a range of texts. Develop your own creativity producing texts yourselves – and reflect on them. How does the voice of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” compare with contemporary “Mean Time” by Carol Ann Duffy? Explore the art of storytelling with F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”. Choose your own texts to support the coursework element and gain insight into different ideas about creativity. You will study poetry, prose, and drama in addition to developing your own writing skills.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above which includes: Mathematics, Grade 6 in English Language and/or English Literature.

6. Non-Examined Assessment - Coursework (20%)

Assessment

This course is assessed through two external examinations (total 80%) and NEA Coursework (20%) in the second year.

Potential careers include Journalist, Editor, Author, Copywriter, Speech and Language Therapist, Creative Writer, Public Relations Executive, Marketing, and Teacher.

Attend theatre performances in London and Stratford-Upon-Avon and participate in workshops with the Royal Shakespeare Company and at The British Library. Students are also able to participate in poetry writing workshops, with students producing work that has been used in the promotion of Burnley Football Club!
