What You Will Do

1. Assess, develop, implement and evaluate Music Therapy interventions to address the age-specific psychosocial and physiological needs of hospitalized adults and their families.
2. Plan and implement music therapy groups for inpatients/outpatients/staff.
3. Evaluate and mentor practicum and internship students as appropriate.
4. Engage in professional growth, information sharing, and collaboration.
5. Create and implement innovative ways to secure funding.

Additional Responsibilities

1. Perform other duties as assigned.
2. Comply with all policies and standards.
3. Refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation for specific duties and responsibilities.
4. Abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients, including annual training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures regarding appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education

1. Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy (Required) or
2. Bachelor's Degree equivalency in a related field (Required) and
3. Membership in the American Music Therapy Association (Required).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

1. Demonstrate competence with a variety of musical instruments and skills (i.e., transposition, improvisation, songwriting, instrumental/vocal arranging, drumming, and adapting instruments and therapeutic music interventions) to serve a diverse patient population.
2. Knowledge of research design and methodology, patient assessment, and evaluation techniques.
3. Strong interest in a multi-disciplinary team approach.
4. Basic computer knowledge.

Licenses and Certifications

1. Board Certification (MT-BC) or pending (Required within 90 Days).
