Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this position facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, addressing specific educational needs of individual students, creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
SALARY: Commensurate with certification and experience based on the Wicomico County Salary Scale for Teachers.
Hours: Full-time 10-month position (190 contract days).
Contract Unit: This position is part of the Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit.
FLSA: Exempt
Qualifications:
- Eligibility for the Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate with the proper endorsement. IMPORTANT NOTE for Out-of-State Applicants: Out-of-state applicants can request a Professional Eligibility Certificate (PEC) if they hold a valid out-of-state certificate. For certification requirements, please refer to the Maryland State Department of Education certification webpage. For Maryland testing requirements, please check the ETS website.
- Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using the English language when deemed necessary.
- Exemplary organizational and planning skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and personal qualities necessary to work effectively with students, parents, and administrators.
Essential Functions:
- Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
