Cunningham Children’s Home seeks a Special Therapies Specialist to join our trauma-informed team, providing therapeutic services to youth in residential care. This role collaborates with Special Therapies and clinical teams to deliver evidence-based recreation, music, art, or occupational therapy interventions that support emotional and behavioral growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group therapeutic interventions in recreation, music, art, or other allied modalities.
- Collaborate with youth, interdisciplinary teams, community partners, and volunteers.
- Ensure documentation and maintain therapeutic equipment and safe environments according to agency standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Music Therapy, or a related field; must meet Medicaid’s Mental Health Professional requirements.
- Licenses/Certifications: Certification in a therapeutic specialty preferred, or eligibility to complete certification within 6 months. Board Certified Music Therapist preferred. CPR and First Aid certifications required upon hire; lifeguard certification is preferred. Valid Illinois driver’s license required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of: Trauma-informed practices, therapeutic recreation models, child development, and DSM-5 diagnoses.
- Skills in: Group facilitation, clinical decision-making, documentation, and behavior management.
- Abilities: Engage in physical activities, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain therapeutic relationships.
Additional Requirements
- Completion of background checks, drug testing, health screenings, and agency-required training (including TCI, CPR, and First Aid).
