The School of Communication and Creative Arts (SCCA) at Johnson University is recruiting applicants for a part-time Adjunct Professor of Music Technology to teach courses in the Bachelor of Music Technology program.

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Hiring Salary Range: Commensurate with education and experience
Appointment: Spring 2025

Job Summary

We are seeking an individual to teach a three-credit course and co-teach a one-credit lab in electrical engineering for audio development as part of the Bachelor of Music Technology (BMT) program. The BMT equips students to utilize musicianship skills, live audio production, studio production, computer science, electrical engineering, and digital/electronic instrument construction skills in a variety of music production-focused professions.

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree in either Music Technology, Composition, or a related field.
  2. Three years of teaching collegiate-level courses with a record of excellence.
  3. Strong background in Arduino or another open-source hardware/software microcontroller such as Raspberry Pi.
  4. Evidence of professional practice in music technology.
  5. Strong communication and organizational skills.
  6. All teaching faculty must affirm the institution’s statement of faith, mission statement, and community covenant.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Doctorate in either Music Technology, Composition, or a related field.
  2. Experience working with computer music programming languages such as Max MSP, Supercollider, or Pure Data.
  3. Experience working with UI/UX design tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, and JUCE.
  4. Evidence of integrating music technology with creative applications.
  5. Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
  6. All teaching faculty are required to affirm the institution’s mission, statement of faith, and community covenant.
