Description

The Marketing, Media & Communications is a full-time, 12-month position responsible to Vice President for Operations/Chief Operations Officer. The Marketing, Media & Communications position is responsible for the Coordination of the College’s media activities/requests, proactively developing the external communications strategy and the writing of news stories and features for print, broadcast and web media.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Serving as initial contact for media inquiries, providing information as required on routine as well as uncommon matters, for sources, etc. Accompany and assist media when they are on campus as needed. College spokesperson as needed.
  • Supporting the team in crisis communications situations, working with the Office of the President, Vice President for Operations/Chief Operations Officer, Campus Police and the media in an accurate and timely manner with disciplined messages.
  • Proactively researching, writing feature stories and profiles of faculty, staff and alumni for both internal and external publications, online publications, broadcasts, and social media.
  • Creating pitches, news releases, media advisories, talking points, and research to accurately position the College as a key resource in higher education.
  • Proactively researching, writing, and distributing localized releases to hometown newspapers for student-related news.
  • Maintaining an editorial calendar that includes all content pushed to media and publications.
  • Establishing and maintaining an internal group of college contacts and news sources that are regularly mined for news and feature content.
  • Creating or assisting with internal communications such as notifications, speeches, memos, and other documents.
  • Requesting applicable data from the appropriate person/department for approved PIA requests, calculating costs, preparing and submitting invoices, and responding to requestors with information in a timely manner.
  • Preparing or assisting with submissions for various awards and recognitions for the College.
  • Serving as a team member for assigned communications and marketing projects and/or events.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, English and/or public relations required.
  • Strong track record working in both traditional and digital media platforms.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Minimum five plus years experience as a public relations coordinator and/or spokesperson preferred. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned media relations professional with deep experience in crisis management and confidence in speaking to reporters and the media.
  • Additional experience writing promotional or advertising copy is desired.
