Job Summary
- The Radio Watchman is a critical maritime communications professional responsible for maintaining continuous communication, monitoring safety protocols, and supporting operational efficiency on a dredging vessel.
- Maintain constant radio communication between the dredge vessel and shore-based operations.
- Monitor and log all incoming and outgoing radio communications.
- Operate and manage marine communication systems, including VHF, marine radio, and other communication equipment.
- Relay critical navigation, weather, and operational instructions to vessel crew.
- Ensure immediate communication of emergency situations or safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate communication logs and records.
- Monitor maritime safety channels and weather reports.
- Coordinate communication between different departments and external vessels.
- Assist in emergency response and communication protocols.
- Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting of communication systems.
Skills / Experience
- Minimum of 2 years maritime communication experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and clear during high-stress situations.
- Excellent hearing and clear speech.
- Basic computer and logging software skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work extended shifts in maritime environment.
- Good vision and hearing.
- Capable of working in noise-intensive settings.
- Must pass maritime medical examination.
- Must be able to work as part of a team.
- Adaptable to changing maritime conditions.
- Commitment to safety and precision in communication.
Required Equipment Knowledge
- Digital communication platforms.
- Navigation communication systems.
- Emergency communication protocols.
Safety Certifications
- STCW Basic Safety Training.
- Offshore Safety Certification.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Schedule
- 21 days on and 14 days off.
Work Location
- Where the dredge is for projects all along the Gulf of Mexico, from Panama City, Florida to Corpus Christi, Texas.
Work Conditions
- Offshore maritime environment.
- Potential for extended periods away from home.
- Exposure to marine weather conditions.
- Confined workspace on dredging vessel.
