Salary Range: $65,000 – $78,000 USD annually
The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Total compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
ABOUT THE TEAM: As part of ALM’s global newsroom, the in-house desk team is focused on covering the news, trends and issues involving corporate legal departments and their general counsel from the Fortune 1000. We’re focused on delivering breaking news, analysis and features about issues that impact legal departments and their organizations. Our focus is on predictive reporting, trend analysis and peer guidance to help GCs and their teams succeed in their increasingly high-stakes roles as risk managers and corporate strategists. You’ll be writing for Corporate Counsel and other brands in the Law.com universe.
ABOUT THE POSITION: We are seeking a full-time reporter to cover the legal risks and opportunities facing technology companies and their legal departments at this pivotal moment in Silicon Valley’s history, with Big Tech wielding its vast resources to ensure its central place in the development of artificial intelligence but also facing unprecedented antitrust scrutiny from regulators. The reporter covering this beat must live in Northern California, thrive on developing sources, be intensely curious and have the confidence and smarts to find high-impact stories on the rapidly changing tech industry that pack journalists are missing.
Responsibilities:
- Produce breaking news stories on tight deadlines for Corporate Counsel and our Law.com corporate readers
- Develop deep sources and establish and broaden a base of industry contacts
- Produce enterprise articles, including features and investigative pieces, while juggling daily news commitments
- Work well in a collaborative team environment with colleagues based around the world
- Average 5-6 stories per week, including at least one enterprise story a week
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated reporting and writing skills, especially for a corporate audience
- Ability to develop ongoing source relationships
- Good interviewing skills
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Experience covering the legal industry a major plus
- Must be able to write quickly, but also be able to pivot and do enterprise stories
- Must be team-oriented and have good communications skills and a can-do attitude
- Must have degree in journalism, communications, English or similar background
- At least 2 years journalism experience preferred
- Open to attending and networking at industry conferences (both internal and external)
- A self-starter, but open to taking direction
