As a Digital Court Reporter, you will be part of a team that ensures court proceedings are being digitally recorded. In this position, you will record court proceedings and annotate the digitally recorded court proceedings while they occur for each court proceeding. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures. Occasional travel to the other Circuit courthouses may be required.
- Monitors audio quality and annotates digitally recorded court proceedings while the proceedings occur to facilitate future transcriptions; annotates previously recorded, non-annotated court proceedings as necessary.
- Processes approved transcript/CD/DVD orders in a queue; produces copies of court proceedings and hearings for attorneys, governmental personnel/agencies, and the public. Follows up on pending court orders and verifies each for accuracy, which may require further research.
- Performs tests of digital court recording equipment located within courtrooms to ensure systems work properly prior to the start of court proceedings.
- Provides services involving digital court recording equipment, such as the playback of recordings in open courtroom upon a judge’s request or making a recording of a particular case available for listening by court personnel.
- Keeps accurate records of annotated proceedings, dockets, orders received, including research of files for case law entered into evidence and correct spelling of names and places.
- Attends staff and other professional meetings to exchange information.
High School Diploma or GED along with one year of college or vocational school education in office skills, computer or closely related field and two years of customer service experience.
Preferred: Two years of experience in an Office Setting.
Relevant experience and/or education may substitute for the recommended minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge and understanding of specialized vocabulary used in judicial proceedings; ability to type 50 w.p.m.; detail-oriented; excellent communication skills; accurate use of the English language, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Able to multi-task and capable of prioritizing tasks assigned.
- Use judgment and discretion concerning confidential information.
- Able to perform clerical tasks, such as maintaining logbooks and weekly reports.
- Ability to work in a team environment and have a ‘can-do’ attitude is essential for success in this position.
- Able to work a flexible schedule that can change from day to day.
- Weekend hours will be required on a rotating basis with colleagues.
