New Lenox Public Library is looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and technology-minded team player to manage The Studio space and its staff. Opportunities abound in this hands-on position that facilitates patron-focused services and programs to our growing community. Our newly renovated Studio space welcomes over 1,000 visitors per month! How You’ll Contribute:
The Studio Manager is responsible for:

  1. Planning, managing, and directing activities and procedures related to the successful daily operation of The Studio
  2. Maintaining an atmosphere conducive to connecting, creating and exploring
  3. Developing strategic goals, processes, and procedures for The Studio
  4. Hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff for The Studio
  5. Scheduling staff and approving timecards
  6. Tracking and creating patron stories and reports based on The Studio usage
  7. Establishing performance benchmarks
  8. Gathering and analyzing statistics
  9. Monitoring, maintaining, and replacing The Studio equipment, software, and supplies
  10. Creating and updating training documentation including procedure manuals and guidelines for The Studio equipment and activities
  11. Assisting library patrons online and in person by finding materials, answering questions, and providing technical help
  12. Offering training on technology available in The Studio such as tours, staff training, individual instruction, group classes, and events
  13. Working closely with the IT department to provide consistent library services
  14. Collaborating with the Management Team and Administration on organizational development and strategic planning
  15. Recommending policy updates to better serve the community
  16. Actively seeking grant opportunities
  17. Demonstrating creativity, initiative, and ability to work independently to achieve personal, department, and library-wide focused goals
  18. Participating in the planning and implementation of programs and events for all ages as needed
  19. Performing other related duties as required

Requirements include:

  1. Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2 years experience required
  2. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution preferred
  3. Working in a public library makerspace or digital media lab
  4. High level of experience with maker technologies and equipment and other no, low, or high technologies
  5. Experience with digital media creation and editing tools
  6. Experience with basic digitization and conversion processes
  7. Strong organizational and scheduling skills
  8. Strong communication skills when working with our community, library personnel, and vendors
  9. Ability to patiently and respectfully instruct and guide users of all skill levels, backgrounds, and ages
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft and Apple computer systems
  11. Ability to quickly learn new technology and adapt to emerging technologies
  12. Ability to troubleshoot issues independently and know how to identify solutions using a wide breadth of resources
  13. Knowledge of related online resources offered, such as Creativebug, Craftsy, and Linkedin Learning preferred
  14. Familiarity with Illinois and Federal laws as they apply to public libraries, including privacy and copyright preferred
  15. Access to transportation and ability to travel

This full-time, non-exempt managerial position is scheduled for 37.5 hours per week and will report to the Executive Director.
