POSITION OVERVIEW

The classroom teacher is responsible for educating and supporting students to help them reach learning targets. Teachers must be content area experts who make sound instructional decisions, create and maintain a learning environment where positive relationships are built and routines and procedures are in place to create collective responsibility. Teachers are responsible for providing rich learning tasks for intellectual engagement, assessing formatively and summatively, and providing feedback to students for their academic achievement.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Demonstrate mastery of content knowledge
  2. Ensure a high-quality learning experience; plan and implement learning tasks with purpose and innovation
  3. Follow the AHS curriculum framework/scope and sequence
  4. Articulate instructional purpose and learning outcomes
  5. Design structured lessons and activities with a focus on student engagement and critical thinking
  6. Curate and design resources and incorporate instructional technologies aligned with learning outcomes
  7. Provide clear expectations for learning, clear explanations of content, and use academic language
  8. Align activities, assignments, questions, and discussions with learning outcomes
  9. Enter all lesson activities, assignments, and assessments into the school’s learning management system one week in advance by each Friday afternoon; include due dates for all assignments and assessments so that they are visible in student and parent calendars
  10. Ensure learning by all students by frequently monitoring student understanding
  11. Assess learning in a variety of ways, using formative and summative measures including but not limited to traditional and alternative assessments; prepare and administer semester and/or final exams and standardized tests
  12. Provide timely and relevant feedback to students and parents; enter grades into the school learning management/student information systems weekly
  13. Use assessment data to inform instructional decisions
  14. Differentiating and modifying learning tasks according to student need; implement accommodations as directed
  15. Demonstrate caring and respect in interactions with students
  16. Establish routines and procedures for a productive physical environment
  17. Monitor student behavior so that students take ownership and contribute to a positive, productive learning environment
  18. Maintain standards of appropriate discipline in accordance with school rules and the student handbook
  19. Provide for students’ safety and general welfare
  20. Proactively communicate with parents, principals, and academic advisors
  21. Prepare progress reports and provide comments as needed
  22. Conduct parent/teacher conferences quarterly and as needed
  23. Be an active contributor to the school’s curriculum; provide feedback and share resources with colleagues
  24. Contribute to team-planning; attend and engage in professional learning communities
  25. Demonstrate a commitment to professional learning
  26. Prepare for and attend required events including but not limited to Back to School Night, Meet and Greets, Conference Days, and Professional Development Days
  27. Provide required weekly extra help after school

SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. If teaching in the Academy Program, provide expert differentiated instruction and demonstrate strategies for meeting the needs of students with mild learning differences
  2. Manage facility and equipment for specialized instructional areas as warranted
  3. Coordinate and attend events for specialized instructional areas as warranted
  4. Ensure the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support from teaching assistants; evaluate teacher assistants annually

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  1. Preferred minimum three years teaching experience in a K-12 instructional setting
  2. Valid Florida State Teaching License or single subject teaching credential, certification and/or experience in a specialized subject; ESOL endorsed, ESE certification preferred
  3. B.A./B.S. in education from an accredited institution or B.F.A. for fine arts instructors
  4. Professional experience in related field

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to facilitate and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  2. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  3. Ability to utilize educational technologies such as iPads, learning software, and basic word processing software
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality
  5. Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
