REPORTS TO: Managing Director of Academics

POSITION TYPE: 12-month

START DATE: March 2025

COMPENSATION: $74,604 - $89,525, Home Office grade 7

THE OPPORTUNITY

YES Prep needs a dynamic Secondary Math Content Director, with a diverse set of experiences to make our mission a reality. To put it simply, you will ensure our students experience a rigorous academic program that increases achievement and better prepares them for college success. You will lead a team that creates high-quality and aligned Math curriculum, assessments, and professional development, while developing and implementing strategies to increase strong implementation and respond to organizational, external, and data context. The ultimate goal is to meet rigorous student achievement goals for both state accountability and college-readiness metrics.

THE ROLE

When you join the YES Prep team, some of the exciting work and responsibilities will include:

Vision and Leadership
  • Collaborating closely with the Managing Director of Academics to maintain vision in Math and actively advocating for its implementation district-wide;
  • Leading, managing, and developing a team of Content Specialists to create high quality critical resources and development for campus-based staff on urgent timelines.
  • Hiring, training, managing, and arranging compensation for teachers in stipend-based roles in a manner that aligns with team and organizational goals and standards
  • Investing stakeholders, prioritizing initiatives, developing strategies and processes, and managing a team of content leaders towards exemplary student achievement in a fluid educational landscape;
  • Exemplifying YES Prep Core values and committing to growth as a leader;

Curriculum Development
  • Monitoring and sharing updates to standards, pedagogy, and assessment methodology for math with your team and applicable stakeholders;
  • Setting an explicit standard for rigorous, aligned curriculum designed to reach all learners in math courses;
  • Creating and/or selecting aligned curriculum for students currently performing below grade level to receive high-impact interventions in Grades 6 and 7 that support achieving grade-level proficiency as quickly as possible.
  • Providing feedback and coaching to your team of direct reports and seasonal teachers to create and implement aligned, effective unit plans and key resources for courses on an urgent timeline that lead to strong system-wide academic results;
  • Strategically, accurately, and responsibly managing a budget of teacher stipends and student instructional materials (e.g. books, manipulatives, supplies, etc.) to ensure that teachers and students have access throughout the year to rigorous and aligned curriculum and supporting resources;
  • Driving your team to build strong vertical alignment across math courses that leads to college-readiness in your content area;

Assessment Writing and Data Analysis
  • Maintaining expertise in state (e.g. STAAR, TELPAS) and college-ready (e.g. SAT, TSIA) assessment design to strategically set an explicit standard for rigorous, aligned assessment in math courses;
  • Providing feedback and coaching to your team to create summative and common assessments for all math courses that effectively measure progress towards ambitious student achievement goals;
  • Synthesizing student achievement data on a regular basis to prioritize and adjust the work of your team; communicate key takeaways and recommendations to teachers and leaders;
  • Urgently addressing data gaps by creating and implementing strategic response

Support and Develop Fellow Educators and Leaders
  • Setting vision and structure for Content Days aligned to Academic team priorities, teacher needs, student data, and/or content team priorities;
  • Creating structures and coaching team to execute Content Days that lead to teacher development and collaboration;
  • Creating opportunities for collaboration with other Home Office teams, such as Special Populations, Teacher Development, Principal Leaders, College Initiatives, and Analytics, as well as campus leadership to ensure instruction and teacher support is aligned;
  • Consistently and frequently observing instruction and student output in Math courses to better inform curricular practice, including serving as a coach-of-coach for campus-based instructional leaders when co-observing;
  • Regularly designing, facilitating, and training others to facilitate professional development sessions and assessment norming and scoring for teachers and/or instructional leaders; including, at minimum 5 full days in July and at least 5 additional full days throughout the school year
  • Designing and facilitating professional development to teachers and/or leaders in response to data.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • A minimum of 3 years of exemplary teaching experience in secondary math courses
  • A minimum of 2 additional years of academic leadership experience (campus and/or district level)
  • Expertise in current curricular and assessment strategies specific to math
  • Skills and experience in managing a team and facilitating professional development
  • Belief in and commitment to the mission and core values of YES Prep Public Schools
  • Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a team
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives at once

THE PERKS

•Compensation - This position is an exempt, salaried position; offers commensurate with experience.

•Health and Supplemental Insurance - A $0 monthly medical option that includes $600 towards a Health Savings Account, in addition to a variety of supplemental benefits including Dental, Vision, Disability, Life, etc. Employees must work 20+ hours a week to be eligible for a full spectrum of benefits, and 10 hours a week minimum for medical benefits.

•Retirement Plans - Participation in Teacher Retirement System of Texas and a 457b Retirement Plan.

•Paid Time Off - Employees working 20+ hours a week receive 15 days of Paid Time Off in addition to the system closures during the Academic Calendar.
