This is a 6.5 hour per day, 180 days per year Library Paraeducator position at Picnic Point Elementary School. Anticipated start date is as soon as possible.

Hours for this position are 8:35 a.m. - 3:35 p.m

The successful candidate will support students in the library with check out. Assignment also includes: arrival, lunch, recess and dismissal supervision.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position performs a wide variety of tasks under the direction of the principal and librarian to facilitate the efficient operation of the school library. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with the delivery of instructional and non-instructional activities for students individually or in groups, student supervision, maintaining the physical appearance of the library and display areas, maintaining books and other library materials, and operating a variety of library equipment to provide information and support for staff and students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitates the operation of the school library in an independent capacity while coordinating with a certificated librarian; assists students in use of equipment and resources; maintains security of materials and equipment; maintains the physical appearance of library and display areas.
  • Operates a variety of office equipment used for library instruction to prepare, duplicate, collate and distribute materials for students and staff.
  • Provides clerical support related to maintaining records, files, lists, catalogs. Shelves books and completes backups. Notifies student/teacher/parent of late books and/or fines and follows through on a regular basis for returned books and/or replacement payments.
  • Order materials in consultation with the principal and librarian for student and teacher library use.
  • Locates materials to support student and teacher use, activities and special projects in consultation with the principal and librarian.
  • Assists students individually with locating materials and utilizing other library resources and services.
  • Supervises and monitors students in library, models appropriate behavior, and behavioral rules to promote and maintain appropriate student behavior.
  • Assists in promoting effective communication with students, staff and parents.
  • Respects confidentiality of information.
  • Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
  • Such other related job duties as assigned by the principal(s).
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of technology to media centers, i.e. computer skills, word processing, circulation software, on-line database and Internet searching.
  • Knowledge and skill in library organization and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning in the library.
  • Ability to operate a variety of computers, audio-visual and other equipment related to the facilitation of library operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to physically transport AV materials, equipment, store print and AV curricular materials throughout the school facility.
  • Knowledge and ability to successfully use basic math and write routine documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation.
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact and communicate with students, supervisors, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
Education/Certification:
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits), or have obtained an associate's (or higher) degree or have successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
  • Completion of college coursework related to job assignments in a library media center desired.
Experience:
  • Job related experience in a school library media center desired.
