POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, this position provides delivery of high-quality library services to the public, including staffing service points, assistance in managing daily activities of the library, maintaining library facilities, and performing a variety of administrative and technical functions in support of the library's operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Staffs service points.
• Performs a variety of circulation duties, including answering calls, patron inquiries, check in/check out of materials, holds assistance, card issuance, material location, library fee collection, patron database maintenance, and meeting room reservations.
• Assists patrons with all library technology, including public computers, online catalogs, mobile devices, software, and online services.
• Answers reference questions or refers reference inquiries to the Librarians as appropriate; assists patrons with locating/using library resources and services.
• Resolves patron issues regarding overdue items, fines and other circulation or routine matters.
• Participates in opening and closing duties.
• Monitors and empties book drops; cleans materials as needed; sorts and shelves material; cleans and maintains library shelves.
• Performs material preparation, repair, and removal as assigned; evaluates and recommends library items for repair, rebinding, and/or replacement and carries out those same tasks; processes mail, magazines, newspapers, and new, donated, or withdrawn library materials.
• Assists with library promotion, outreach, displays, programs and events.
• Processes overdue materials, including mailing notices and telephoning patrons regarding fines and overdue items.
• Provides assistance to patrons in placing and monitoring InterLibrary Loan (ILL) requests; manages ILL process as assigned.
• May train new employees regarding library and/or circulation procedures and policies as assigned; may present topics at staff training days.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Requires High School Diploma or GED; some college preferred.
• Minimum one (1) year customer service experience; public library experience preferred.
• Online computer experience.
Work Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week; includes weekends and evenings.
