Writing & Editorial Specialist
Location: Atlanta, GA, Philadelphia, PA, Washington, D.C., New York, NY or Asheville, NC
High Lantern Group (www.highlanterngroup.com) is adding to its growing writing and editorial team. We are looking for an experienced writer and editor, with a proven understanding of corporate and employee communications for large organizations, especially in technology and life sciences.
To succeed in this role, you must be able to both shape communications strategy and write excellent, client-ready content. Activities will include meeting with clients to understand their communications needs and offer sound counsel; translating these discussions into clear, persuasive content on a range of topics; revising content based on feedback from multiple reviewers; and always delivering content that is proofread to the highest degree without any errors.
A successful candidate will be able to lead and co-lead projects across a range of corporate communications needs, including external needs like messaging, white papers, editorials, and event summaries, as well as internal needs like communications strategies, playbooks, key messages, talking points, and business narratives.
This is an opportunity to join a highly successful strategic consulting firm experiencing rapid growth. The successful candidate must bring a strong baseline writing and communications skillset. The successful candidate will also be comfortable working for large organizations, with experience in corporate or employee communications.
This role will include 3-4 days in-person per week. Writing samples will be requested during the interview process.

High Lantern Group provides a competitive salary, benefits and bonus package for our employees and new joiners. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for new joiners for this role is $75,000- $125,000. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to an individual's experience and expertise.

Responsibilities:
- Work with client teams to create communications strategies, plans, and playbooks
- Interact with corporate leaders from human resources, technology, manufacturing, finance, translating their business ideas into clear prose
- Offer useful ideas, sound principles, and smart questions to inform corporate communications strategy, even for unfamiliar or sensitive topics
- Write first drafts of messaging, op-eds, white papers, fact sheets, talking points, etc.
- Revise and finalize drafts based on feedback from clients and colleagues, including the ability to translate high-level direction into concrete changes and improvements
- Quickly learn complex new subject areas across a range of sectors, including healthcare, aging, technology, issue advocacy, and others
- Manage a busy editorial calendar with multiple simultaneous requests, including a mix of recurring pieces, long-term projects, and unexpected fast-turns
- Suggest ideas for how to improve client deliverables and execution
Desired Experience, Attributes, and Skills:
- 2-6 years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated writing experience with a record of effective business pieces, preferably in strategic communications or public affairs
- Experience interacting with business leaders and their staff. Strong grasp of corporate organizations, roles, internal communications, product marketing, and business messaging.
- Focus on concise content for busy readers
- Ability to reflect client preferences, strategic considerations, and ambiguous feedback in deliverables
- Close attention to detail and tireless commitment to eliminating errors and typos
