Position Summary:
The Music Therapist (MT) plans, organizes, and directs medically prescribed music therapy interventions as part of psychosocial and physical treatment of patients and their families as part of the hospice plan of care. The MT also provides continued evaluation, documentation, and communication with the interdisciplinary team.
- Assess and provide individualized music therapy consultations and services to the patient and/or family concerning their physical, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and social functioning, musical response, and to determine overall needs.
- Upon evaluation, develop goals and objectives for patients' individualized music therapy treatment plan of care.
- Implement music therapy interventions in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care and within AMTA's Standards of Clinical Practice and Scope of Practice.
- Use creative activities for the purpose of improving or maintaining mental and physical function and quality of life for patients and families.
- Continued evaluation of the effectiveness of music therapy services provided and documentation of findings in the hospice electronic medical record or paper documentation and in the patient's chart.
- Communicate observations to the IDG team and when appropriate, suggest how to use supportive music to staff, caregivers, family members, etc.
- Support the business development activities of the organization by providing in-services as delegated by management.
- Determines when termination of music therapy services are appropriate.
- This position is only Per Diem.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Music Therapist Board Certification required (MT-BC);
- BA/BS graduate with emphasis in Music Therapy required
- A minimum of one year's experience in healthcare preferably in hospice care systems.
- Hospice and Palliative Care Music Therapist (HPMT) preferred
- Quality musicianship and musical foundation skills as listed in AMTA's Professional Competencies
- Detail oriented, organizational skills, and time-management
- Abides by the laws of Confidentiality/HIPAA and AMTA's Code of Ethics
- Ability to lift, push and pull up to 15 lbs. Position requires sitting, standing and bending.
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for transporting between visits.
