South College invites applications for the position of Library Coordinator at the Parkside Learning Site. The Library Coordinator supervises the day-to-day operations of the Parkside Learning Site library in Knoxville, Tennessee to include reference and circulation duties, interlibrary loan, supporting the educational mission of the college, and other duties as required. The Library Coordinator works with the institution’s Director of Library Services on collection development and budget requests. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.


Responsibilities:

  • Hire library department clerks in collaboration with the Director of Library Services and, when appropriate, the Associate Director of Instructional Design.
  • Coordinate Library & Instructional Technology Clerk tasks with Instructional Design.
  • Train & supervise library department clerks for each campus.
  • Assign clerical duties to the local library department clerk as needed.
  • Train & supervise local work study students in various library duties.
  • Assign clerical duties to local work study students as needed.
  • Conduct orientations for new library users to explain services, resources and policies.
  • Plan and conduct training sessions for library users on services and resources.
  • Produce and maintain instructional guides to library resources as needed or as requested by the Director of Library Services.
  • Produce and maintain research guides as needed or as requested by the Director of Library Services.
  • Provide reference services at the service desk. May include evening and weekend work.
  • Provide online reference services through the library reference system. May include evening and weekend work.
  • Assist library users with the research process and the use of library research tools.
  • Assist students with student copiers, printers, and computers.
  • Assist faculty and staff in the use of library audiovisual equipment.
  • Maintain familiarity with the library collection and resources.
  • Perform circulation duties such as check in and check out of library items and maintaining accurate circulation statistics.
  • Communicate with assigned academic department(s) for collection development, and for the promotion and development of new user services and online initiatives.
  • Participate in collection management, evaluation, weeding and preservation decisions for assigned subject areas.
  • Recommend new materials to be added to assigned subject areas using standard selection tools.
  • Collect data for statistical analysis and reports as needed; prepare reports for submission to Director of Library Services.
  • Participate in yearly inventory.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by Supervisor.


Requirements:


• MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
