Position -

Gas Service Designer II Duration- - Contract through 02/03/2026 with a high possibility of extension Job Location: Flexible HQ locations preferred in Saginaw, Lansing, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Flint, Livonia, Royal Oak, Groveland, Howell, and Macomb, Michigan. Hybrid position with on-site work 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday), and remote work on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Position Overview:

will work within the utility sector to support utility system design and analysis. This role requires a basic understanding of utility systems, CAD (Computer Aided Design), and GIS (Geographic Information System) software. The ideal candidate will contribute to the design, planning, and execution of utility-related projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal processes. The Engineering Technician will also support the development and maintenance of technical documents and work orders, as well as provide field support for utility systems. Key Responsibilities: Design and Technical Drawing: Utilize CAD software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Open Plant) to create, modify, and update technical drawings for utility systems. Apply design standards and specifications to all work produced. System Analysis: Analyze and interpret industry standards, maps, blueprints, sketches, survey data, and project scope to ensure alignment with project requirements. Project Planning & Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and leadership to discuss project specifications, timelines, problem-solving, task prioritization, and environmental impacts. Assist with project coordination, permitting, and resource allocation. Work Order Preparation: Prepare and update work orders and system application data related to utility system design, ensuring all required documentation is accurate and complete. Site Visits & Field Support: Conduct site visits to verify data and provide support during construction phases. Offer guidance, training, and troubleshooting during the implementation of utility systems. Adherence to Standards: Ensure all designs and projects comply with internal department standards, procedures, and industry regulations. Provide input to improve processes and job aids. Technical Support: Assist with technical writing and documentation of project deliverables and reports, ensuring clear communication of project progress, issues, and outcomes. Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as required by the department or project needs. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Basic understanding of utility system design and operations. Proficiency in CAD software (MicroStation V8i or V10, AutoCAD, Open Plant, GIS). Experience with utility operations and technical systems. Familiarity with project planning, coordination, and scheduling. Skills & Competencies: Strong problem-solving ability, utilizing existing computer-based solutions to address technical challenges. Good written and verbal communication skills. Technical writing ability to document processes, design specifications, and project details. Ability to work well with cross-functional teams, contractors, and leadership. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a dynamic work environ
