WVEC, 13News Now, the award-winning ABC station in Norfolk, VA, is seeking a dynamic, engaging, and enterprising anchor and on-air MSJ to join our team.

The successful journalist is an excellent on-camera communicator deeply committed to local news who regularly breaks stories in their market and gets noticed. We are looking for a journalist who excels at both accountability reporting and breaking news. In addition, they must be an excellent storyteller, developer of sources and understand the news cycle extends to multiple platforms. That means you can create unique and shareable stories for all platforms. The Anchor is a newsroom leader who will be one of the faces of the station in charge of developing contacts and relationships in the community, enabling them to create and present unique, compelling, and innovative stories of interest. Prior anchor experience is preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver reports in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner either on-air or on our digital platforms.
  2. Enterprise compelling content that is engaging and can drive an audience to watch.
  3. Develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest.
  4. Need to have or develop skills to shoot, write and edit content for air as a multi-skilled journalist.
  5. Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.
  6. Represent 13News Now at community events.
  7. Perform other tasks as required by supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  1. 3-5 years combined news anchoring and reporting/MSJ experience.
  2. A portfolio with examples of strong breaking, general, and feature news reporting as a multi-skilled journalist.
  3. Strong on-camera delivery with the ability to ad-lib.
  4. Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots.
  5. Strong social media skills, including an understanding on all social platforms – current and emerging – and the tenants of content marketing.
  6. Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
  7. Excellent creative presentation and writing skills.
  8. Current valid driver’s license and excellent driving history.
