Job Summary

Joining an upper-tier IT team, this role involves assisting in the administration of Apple and Microsoft systems and their supporting infrastructure to meet the needs of students, staff, and teaching requirements at a central campus hub. While experience and knowledge in specific Apple, Microsoft, and Information Technology areas are advantageous, training and mentorship will be provided to help applicants develop advanced skills and knowledge.

To facilitate accurate monitoring of work hours, part-time employees are generally requested to limit their University of Utah employment to Library positions only, unless exceptions are granted.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include assisting students, faculty, and staff with Apple and Microsoft-related issues, such as software and hardware troubleshooting, system repairs, and replacements. Responding to software or hardware issues through problem ticket systems, meetings, messaging, and email. Managing software installations on systems using various methods, including manual installation, AppsAnywhere, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and Jamf Pro. Additional tasks include erasing, testing, imaging, and deploying systems across campus labs and locations managed by the team, as well as various projects and tasks assigned by the supervisor based on expertise and demand.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled in 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.

Preferences

Ideal candidates demonstrate a continuously demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues individually and through teamwork. Excellent knowledge of software deployment and systems management in an Apple and Microsoft ecosystem. Proficiency in tools such as Jamf Pro and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), with scripting or software development skills in languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, and low-level languages like C or C++. Experience in technical support, training, presenting, and creating documentation tailored to distinct audiences is desirable. Familiarity with hardware fundamentals and knowledge of other operating systems such as Linux and multi-platform environments is helpful.

The applicant will need the ability to troubleshoot complex problems and work with our group to implement resilient, scalable, and durable solutions. Applicants must also work effectively independently and in team settings.
