Director of Music Ministries
Position Summary
To promote leadership in developing and implementing the music ministries of First Congregational United Church of Christ, and to actively engage the congregation in worship through music.
Responsibilities of the Director of Music Ministries
- Meet regularly with Pastor to plan overall worship service.
- Coordinate music at all worship services including any vocal and/or instrumental performances.
- Recruit and encourage musicians, both vocal and instrumental, within the congregation and the outside community to promote the music program.
- Recruit, direct and manage the Audio Visual Team, Music Clerk & Pianist/Organist.
- Lead regularly scheduled Chancel Choir rehearsals.
- Lead Chancel Choir on scheduled Sunday mornings & special church services.
- Communicate with worship team and choir members electronically.
- Select and purchase choir music within budget.
- Prepare and transcribe instrumentation and vocal arrangements.
- Ensure cataloging and organizing of all music resources completed by Music Clerk.
- Oversee the care and upkeep of all instruments.
- Be an active participant of the Music Team.
- Attend continuing education events as approved to enhance and improve job skills.
- Offer suggestions and observations which would improve music ministry.
- Assume such other duties as may be assigned by the Pastor.
Qualifications
- A degree in music education, music performance or equivalent experience.
- Enthusiastic with good verbal and written communication skills.
- A person with knowledge to teach and perform traditional and contemporary music pieces to the choir and the congregation.
- Ability to actively engage the congregation during worship through music.
- Ability to give and receive constructive criticism.
- Ability to promote harmony in the workplace by maintaining good working relationships and supporting staff decisions.
- Ability to give detailed attention to the duties for which he/she is primarily responsible while offering imaginative and creative thinking to the overall vision of First Congregational UCC.
- A commitment to spiritual growth which will enhance the basic theological outlook of the United Church of Christ.
Terms of Employment
HOURS: This is a part-time position requiring approximately 10-15 hours a week, the majority of which to be worked at church. Work with the Pastor, Church Business Manager and Music Team.
COMPENSATION: Based on the candidate’s experience and training. $50-75 per hour.
SAFE CHURCH TRAINING: As part of our church’s commitment to the best practices for the care and safety of all children, a background check is required and Safe Church Training is provided.
BENEFITS: There are no benefits for part-time employees.

SUPERVISION: AV Staff and Volunteers, Music Clerk and Pianist/Organist.
