Private Music Lesson Adjunct - Trumpet

Salary: $5,000 - $6,000 per 5 credit course

Department: Social Sciences & Humanities

Reports to: Dean of SSH


Olympic College seeks faculty who are dedicated to student-centered learning and to fostering an equitable and inclusive educational environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a track record of employing culturally-responsive pedagogy, utilizing disaggregated data to guide instruction, and teaching and mentoring minoritized student populations.

Olympic College’s Music program offers private individual instruction in a variety of instruments as well as for vocal. The Music program offers space for individualized instruction, as well as for students to practice and perform. Faculty provide lessons, where possible, utilizing distance learning through Zoom and/or Skype.

Responsibilities

  • Teach evening, distance, and in-person classes on the Bremerton and other campuses when requested;
  • Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping;
  • Provide class syllabi/guidelines to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested;
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities to meet those needs;
  • Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff and administrators;
  • Hold regularly scheduled private lessons for students for the schedule span of time enrolled (1/2 credit = ½ hr/week; 1 credit = 1 hr/week);
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students with little or no background, as well as the experienced student desiring to further their career;
  • Utilize a variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement;
  • Demonstrate success working with individuals representing a wide range of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds;
  • Support diversity in higher education through application of culturally responsive teaching pedagogies;
  • Foster a climate of multi-cultural understanding and appreciation;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning-centered climate;
  • Demonstrate success incorporating accessibility and special needs accommodations via course materials and classroom activities;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom and with other professionals;
  • Collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students as part of an educational team;
  • Incorporate the use of technology in the delivery of course content and services as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring music students - specifically in area of desired instruction.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master Degree in area of instruction;
  • Two years teaching experience of private lessons - at the audit level;
  • Ability to play and teach in both classical and jazz styles;
  • Ability to teach lessons on other brass instruments (high brass and/or low brass).

Terms of Employment

Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department.
