Job Description
SUMMARY
The Stewardship team at USA for UNHCR focuses on providing fundraisers with resources to secure new and manage existing partners and donors, ensuring impactful and long-term donor engagement.
The Director of Audience-Centric Engagement is responsible for leading and executing targeted fundraising strategies designed to engage and inspire specific, high-priority audience segments, such as women, faith-based communities, emergency supporters, and other affinity groups. This role focuses on developing and implementing tailored campaigns, initiatives and messages that resonate deeply with these audiences, leveraging data, insights, and relationships to grow sustainable support for the organizations mission.
The ideal candidate will have experience understanding the unique interests of diverse groups and will lead efforts to foster deep, long-lasting connections with these communities to support the organization's mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement innovative, audience-specific fundraising strategies to maximize donor engagement, revenue growth, and retention. This includes tailoring campaigns to reflect the unique motivations and preferences of key segments like women, faith-based supporters and emergency donors.
- Work closely with private philanthropy, partnerships, direct response, and communications teams to ensure campaigns are cohesive and integrated across all channels.
- Develop culturally relevant, emotionally resonant messaging and appeals tailored to each audience segment, ensuring alignment with the organizations mission and brand.
- Use market research, donor segmentation, and behavioral analytics to refine engagement strategies and identify emerging opportunities.
- Develop and execute messaging and assets for a year-long donor engagement calendar across the Development team.
- Partner with internal teams to design impactful events and webinars that foster connection and loyalty among donor segments.
- Track, monitor and analyze key performance metrics for audience-specific campaigns, providing actionable recommendations to enhance results.
- Manage and develop a small team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and accountability while ensuring team members have the resources and support needed to excel.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years of experience in fundraising or audience-centric marketing, with proven success in engaging specific donor groups; Bachelors degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- In lieu of education/degree requirements and preferences, a successful candidate will have demonstrated:
- Knowledge of stewardship, donor segmentation, market research, and multi-channel campaigns.
- Familiarity with international development or humanitarian sectors is a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships with diverse communities and partners.
- Deep understanding of audience motivations, values, and preferences, with the ability to adapt strategies to meet their unique needs.
- Ability to conceptualize and execute creative, forward-thinking engagement strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Strong analytical skills to leverage donor insights, segmentation, and metrics to inform and optimize campaigns.
- Proficiency in crafting impactful narratives that connect emotionally with audiences and inspire action.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and addressing complex challenges with innovative solutions.
WORK LOCATION
Hybrid + Washington, DC + May also involve travel to some locations within the companys region of operations and select donor locations.
