Seeking a strong leader to join our team as a shift supervisor to also include (Nights & Saturdays). Position involves supervising daily activities in our Youth Services Department and managing a team of three (3) staff members to ensure the delivery of high-quality service. As part of a key leadership staff, this role plays a critical part in the success of our operations.

The purpose of this classification is to perform senior level professional library work, including supervision of daily subdivision operations and its staff; participation in the planning and implementation process; monitoring of library budget and service programs; assisting patrons; selecting and recommending materials for collection; determining patron informational needs; searching electronic databases; and creating reports.

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Librarian, Senior incumbents are assigned to the Youth & Teen Services and perform the following duties, accordingly:

  1. Establishes schedules, programming and/or customer service methods.
  2. Implements policies and procedures; and reviews and approves payroll.
  3. Supervises, directs, and evaluates work of assigned staff, addressing employee concerns and problems; directs work, counsels, and manages employee performance.
  4. Advises individuals seeking information.
  5. Compiles bibliographies and assembles materials on special/timely topics.
  6. Compiles statistical reports for a variety of library services.
  7. Develops, evaluates and monitors library materials for collection; reviews and recommends books and non-book selections for collection based upon national and local collection development standards.
  8. Collects and manages monies from the sale of items and/or the printing jobs for patrons.
  9. Participates in the budgeting process, including setting goals and strategic planning.
  10. Participates in the planning, development and design for displays and exhibits.
  11. Performs research and evaluates the relevance of information as related to patron informational needs; provides reference/research assistance to patrons by answering specific questions either in person or by telephone and/or e-mail.
  12. Plans, coordinates and implements library programs.
  13. Provides bibliographic instruction to the public.
  14. Provides telephone service by answering questions dealing with programs, services and the Library collection.
  15. Monitors and evaluates volunteer program; trains volunteers; and monitors and coordinates staff for seasonal programming.
  16. Advises and instructs patrons in the use of the Internet and other electronic databases.
  17. Collaborates with library colleagues on grant project development and proposal writing.
  18. Serves on appropriate committees and represents the Library in the community.
  19. Keeps abreast of national, state and local developments.
  20. Participates in Collection Development, Collection Management, reviewing customer requests and making the appropriate recommendations for additions and deletions.
  21. Oversees and ensures professional and paraprofessional staff are providing exceptional customer service to Library patrons.
  22. Assists in marketing the library; speaks to community groups; arranges tours and other special activities; designs and implements response to public needs and concerns.
  23. Conducts in-service training within assigned division for professional and paraprofessional staff including orientation.
  24. Evaluates staffing levels and prepares scheduling of staff for all customer service points.
  25. Serves as a member of the Library Leadership Team.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

Masters degree in Library and Information Science, from an ALA accredited university or college; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience involving professional library work, with two (2) years of supervisory experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, and visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
