Summary The Mechanical Engineer/Designer will leverage their professional and technical expertise to design mechanical engineering concepts and options that align with the owner's vision for each project. This individual should have a solid understanding of the consulting engineering process and the contractual documents involved.

Responsibilities Determine the scope of assigned projects and utilize software programs to create mechanical engineering designs, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical systems. Develop cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications, ensuring code compliance of the system designs. Prepare and layout BIM drawings, coordinating with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design, design development, permitting, and construction documents. Perform construction administration tasks, including site observations, shop drawing review, and preparation of punch lists. Define appropriate project scope and ensure it is accurately reflected in the contract documents; proactively manage any possible scope of work variances to ensure client satisfaction and that projects stay on track. Maintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items. Support and mentor less experienced mechanical designers. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. At least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering design of commercial buildings, preferably in aviation, higher education, health care, hospitality, entertainment, or governmental facilities. Experience in plumbing/fire protection engineering design is a plus. At least 2 years of experience coordinating with multi-discipline engineering teams. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT preferred. Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods, including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track, and other construction delivery methods. Knowledge of local, state, and national codes, including other aspects of laws, regulations, and potential liabilities affecting the practice of engineering. Proficiency in Revit MEP required, and familiarity with other engineering software programs. Highly proficient technical/computer skills, including Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Word, Excel), internet, and web applications. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, in writing, or in graphic form. Ability to prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications when the company serves as the prime professional. Technical knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively evaluate various electrical engineering options for configuration of equipment and components. Experience with cost containment and reduction approaches.
